Eric Lefkofsky Powerfully Understated

In 2013 Eric and Liz Lefkofsky, the Chicago-based husband and wife philanthropic team
pledged to give away half of their fortune. Some might take one look at this mild-mannered wiry man with salt and pepper hair and question the validity of the offer. Don’t get it twisted, he can back it up, and if you live in Chicago you could very well receive it. Eric Lefkofsky is a man of immense wealth. Forbes has estimated his worth at $750 million. That fact alone catches the attention of everyone when his name or foundation is mentioned. Eric Lefkofsky and his wife take seriously the duty of giving back to the community. He is one of the world’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, and he and his wife are dedicated to civic and humanitarian causes especially when they involve their hometown of Chicago.

Born in Detriot, Michigan in 1969, Lefkofsky is the son of an engineer and school teacher. He graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, and he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Lefkofsky began his career very humbly selling carpet. After law school, he and a friend borrowed enough money from relatives to buy a clothing company. From there his career took a meteoric climb that has ultimately led him to successfully found over seven entrepreneurial ventures. StarBelly, one of his first ventures, made tools for building websites. He sold his interest in that company in 2000 for $240 million. Two other ventures, Inner Workings and Echo Global Logistics have gone public. Inner Workings provides printing capabilities over the web, while Echo Global Logistics is a transportation and logistics outsourcing business.

Eric Lefkofsky believes in the power technology and the internet to update an industry and keep it on the cutting edge. His book Accelerated Disruption talks about utilizing this power. “Disruptive businesses are born everyday,” he says in the book. What is a disruptive business? One that has a great idea that offers better choices, better prices, more convenience, and could possibly remake an industry. The business, however, fails, because the owner didn’t factor into his plan how technology’s fast pace can create a rival over night. The book essentially is about developing your business while keeping an eye on the fast pace of technological advances.

Lefkofsky’s objective is to take and use technology in any concern that affects mankind. That concept is most interestingly applied to his work with Tempus. Tempus is a company that has built operating systems used to fight cancer. The goal is to use data and machines as learning tools that will harness and analyze analytical and therapeutic data so that physicians will be empowered and able to make real time decisions about patient care.

Wengie- Draw My Life

Wengie is a nickname for the owner and producer of a popular channel on Youtube. Her channel varies in subject, ranging from personal anecdotes, to travel advice. Generally speaking, her specialty is beauty and fashion tips. In this area she focuses on providing viewers with entertaining tutorials on Do-It-Yourself hair, make-up, and clothing items.

In one of her latest videos, Wengie participated in the popular Youtube challenge called Draw Your Life. As the name implies, many of these videos are of a more personal nature. Channel owners use a simple white board and marker to depict major events in their lives. While the intent is generally humorous there is always a chance for more emotionally charged moments to come to the forefront.

With this video, Wengie uses simplistic shapes and expressions to detail some major moments from when she was growing up. While the connections are rarely explicit some of her childhood interests and experiences stick out when considering the subjects she focuses on in her other videos.

For example, one of the earliest portions focuses on her international origin. With pictures and narration she details her families move from China to Singapore. A note of interest is the fact that her parents made the move before she did, leaving her in the care of her grandparents for several years. As she tells it, when the official move was complete and she joined her folks in Singapore young Wengie was initially frightened because she did not recognize her father. From there the family moved to Australia and it’s easy to see from the way she describes it that the fascination with travel developed early on in her life.

At the same time Wengie notes that her family grew up rather poor, especially in those early years. As a result her parents and grandparents taught her how to make her own clothes and toys.

This interest in self-made materials persists even today, as evidenced in her Youtube videos where she guides viewers through assembling their own make shift clothing, accessories and even furniture.

Even her career history and education makes it clear why an individual might be drawn to the unusual profession of professional vlogger.

Handy Cleaning Co. Uses Technology to Keep Employees & Customers Both Satisfied

In a world where most households are two income families, keeping one’s home in a presentable condition can be difficult when everyone has to work at other jobs. Even home based business keep their owners busy enough that household chores are often put on hold because after all, earning a living has to come first. That’s when people with the Handy cleaning app on their phone give them a call and all the chores go away leaving them with a clean home or office.

Fairly treated, content cleaning professionals play a large part in Handy’s success. The average minimum wage isn’t much more than $ 10 in the U.S. and beginning wage for workers at Handy‘s cleaning service starts at $ 15 with the average being in the $ 18 per hour category. Cleaning can be hard work but Handy’s employees know the wage stats mentioned as well as anyone and don’t mind “putting their backs into it” to keep a job that pays so well.

Some people might think of cleaning up after other’s as a less than desirable way to earn money but the fact is, the cleaning business in the U.S. thrives for good reason. Because a busy person doesn’t have time for dishes, cleaning windows, dusting or scrubbing toilets is not an indication they are too lazy to do their own chores, there is simply not enough time in the day to accomplish all that needs to be done. Handy cleaning is doing very well and with the new app, things are only going to get even better. Fact is, cleaning professionals working for them already make more than the average office clerk.

Barely two years after launching, the Handy brand announced it easily books more than $1 million a week helping people keep their environments clean and comfortable. That’s a lot of money by anyone’s standards and goes to show that people are more than willing to pay for a service when they know things are going to be done right. Handy employees are strict in their work habits, they do not take short-cuts to be finished early, and they leave satisfied customers behind them. That’s the true reason for Handy’s success. Yes, the phone app and ease of using it to order a service is attractive, but all else aside, if the cleaning professionals Handy hires weren’t so fairly treated, Handy wouldn’t be making that $1 million a week.

There is more to Handy cleaning than household chores. Although according to nyctechmommy, 85% of the companies income is currently generated through cleaning services, they aren’t stopping with that. Handyman and some plumbing services are also offered and this will make Handy the “one stop for all” kind of service that busy people all over the world will appreciate and make use of. With offices in the U.S., Canada and London they may have to add the word “global” to their company name.
